Vintage Wood Spindle-Back Platform Spring Rocking Chair
A substantial vintage platform rocking chair with a tall spindle back, beautifully turned posts and a traditional spring-rocking mechanism. Its warm wood finish, graceful proportions and gently shaped arms give the chair the comfortable, collected character of classic American furnishings.
Unlike a conventional rocking chair that moves on curved wooden rockers, this chair uses a platform-style base with metal coil springs beneath the seat to create the rocking motion. The exposed mechanism is an interesting feature of the chair’s traditional construction.
The high back is framed by substantial turned posts and slender wood spindles, while turned supports beneath the arms and turned legs add further detail. A removable two-piece cushion set in deep green provides a comfortable seat and back while allowing the wood frame to remain visible.
The chair is structurally sound, with no known cracks, broken parts, loose joints or repairs. Surface wear, rubbing and small marks are present from age and previous use and contribute to its vintage character.
